Fall TV: CW Plan Pairs Melrose with 90210, Vampire with Winchester Boys

The CW's schedule for the 2009-10 TV season is about natural pairings, starting with the network's new Melrose Place series leading out of 90210 — just as the original shows did back in the early '90s — on Tuesdays.

On Wednesdays, America's Next Top Model will tee up The Beautiful Life, a tale of wannabe top models living under one roof. The show — which includes an ensemble of Mischa Barton, Corbin Bleu and real-life supermodel Elle Macpherson as a tough-as-nails modeling agency boss — is produced by Ashton Kutcher.

As previously reported by TVGuide, Vampire Diaries — which comes from Dawson's Creek's Kevin Williamson and stars Lost's Ian Somerhalder — has staked a claim to Smallville's Thursdays-at-8 pm/ET spot, where it will lead into the similarly www.dvdcollects.com/products/Supernatural-Seasons-1-4-DVD...One Tree Hill combo remains unchanged for the fall. And Since the CW has turned Sunday over to affiliates, Everybody Hates Chris (which was not expected back, having churned out enough episodes for syndication) and The Game are not returning. As we previously confirmed, neither Privileged nor will Reaper will return next season.

At midseason, the network will roll out Parental Discretion Advised, a drama about a young girl (Swingtown's Britt Robertson) who tracks down her biological parents. Kerr Smith (Dawson's Creek) and Shiri Appleby (Roswell) also star.

Lost, Mad Men and Southland's Patrick Fischler Can Take a Punch

Patrick Fischler grew up around stars when he worked in his father's Malibu, Calif., restaurant, Patrick's, which bears his name. Today, he's the envy of many an actor, thanks to his roles on three of television's most acclaimed shows: Lost, Mad Men and Southland. Fischler spoke to us before Phil, his Lost character, came to a grisly end, and was impressively tight-lipped about whether Phil or Jimmy Barrett, his insult-comic Mad Men character, might return next season. Looking ahead to Southland's finale (Thursday, 10 pm, NBC), the brand-new father of a baby girl also talked to us about his role on the acclaimed cop show, the other dream shows on his list, and the trouble with Lost.

TVGuide: You must have had some great celebrity sightings at Patrick's when you were a kid.
Patrick Fischler: Oh, dude. All the time. That was crazy. I mean, I worked there as a kid. I mean, Goldie Hawn, and Arnold Schwarzenegger — my dad was friends with Arnold before he was Arnold. He went to his wedding and everything, this small little wedding and my dad snuck this little camera in and got pictures of Jackie O. and Andy Warhol. Yeah, just famous people galore.

TVGuide: Did that make you want to act?
Fischler: You know, maybe. ... I've always loved television and I really have always loved movies. And I love theater. I love, love theater. I love all the mediums, so something obviously drew me to being an actor. I'm sure that was part of it.

TVGuide: You've appeared on so many shows, from Star Trek: Enterprise to Girlfriends to all three CSIs. What's left on the list of shows you want to do?
Fischler: Dexter. Breaking Bad... Californication. Those three.

TVGuide: How close together were your roles on Mad Men, Southland, and Lost?
Fischler: Mad Men was first, and then right at the end of Mad Men, I did the pilot for Southland, and then... I got Lost. And then in the new year when Southland got picked up... I was flying back and forth trying to do both of them. I have to say the producers of Lost were incredibly accommodating, mainly with my wife's pregnancy.

I've heard that Lost often has to introduce new characters because they'll want to do a storyline with a given character, but won't have the actor under contract, so they have to give the storyline to another, new character.
Fischler: That happens all the time. The problem with Lost is there's [about] 10 series regulars and then there's about 30 recurring people on that show. They just, they chance it. When I got cast on Lost, it was only supposed to be two episodes. ... Then I just ended up staying there on and off for basically six months.

TVGuide: Your characters keep getting punched by our heroes — first Don Draper and then Sawyer.
Fischler: Man, tell me about it! ... When I got Mad Men, when I got punched, I knew Don Draper had to have the last word. Because when I told him off, everyone was so jaw-on-the-ground shocked. No one ever tells Don off. Getting that script was the highlight of my career so far.

And then when it happened with Lost, I laughed so hard with those guys. I didn't even do anything to Sawyer. But I paid him back by hitting Juliet, which is just such a weaselly move.

TVGuide: Do you see yourself getting punched on Southland?
Fischler: Yeah. At some point, because I'm playing a detective. I'm not a weaselly guy. Kenny's a little offbeat, but with detectives you never know. But man, I've got to tell you, I take a good stunt-punch now.

TVGuide: How hard is it to switch between all these characters?
Fischler: The key, I've discovered... I think is the costumes. When I'm wearing the gun belt with the badge and the gun, it's really heavy. It's like 10 pounds added onto you. ... And then when I'm in that Dharma jumpsuit, they're hot and big and that feels different to me. And then with my hair parted and that white dinner jacket and the tux... the costumes help to lend themselves for me to become the character again.

I'm the furthest away from Jimmy Barrett right now. Finding him again is going to be hard. But I think putting that suit on I'll just snap to it pretty quick.

TVGuide: I hate to needle, but what you just said makes it sound like you'll be playing Jimmy again.
Fischler: Ahhh. ... I don't know what that meant. [Laughs]

Fall TV: NBC's "Split" Sked Offers Surprises for Fans of Chuck, FNL & Medium

NBC's 2009-10 schedule effectively cleaves the TV season in half, meaning that some shows will premiere in the fall and then vanish, while others will not return or premiere until midseason.

That means that recent flourishes of good news for Chuck and Friday Night Lights have been tempered by news likely to disappoint the shows' fans.

How so? Though Chuck was picked up for a third season, the action-comedy's fervent fans will have to wait until midseason (after the Winter Olympics, specifically) to get their fix. NBC boss Ben Silverman said in a Tuesday conference call, however, that Chuck's cast will not be whittled down.

And while NBC recently trumpeted news of Friday Night Lights' two-season renewal, Coach Taylor won't call another play until summer 2010 — at least as far as NBC viewers are concerned. Production partner DirecTV likely will unspool FNL sooner, perhaps as early as October (as it did last year). A DirecTV rep offered no official word on the dishcaster's premiere plans for the acclaimed drama.

Not making the cut for NBC: My Name Is Earl and Medium. EW however reports that Earl may elicit interest from ABC or Fox, while CBS may size up Medium for its Friday lineup, paired with Ghost Whisperer.

Drilling down into day-by-day details....

Monday
Heroes (which had "around 19" episodes ordered, says Silverman) is moving to the 8 o'clock slot. The new medical drama Trauma will air at 9, followed by The Jay Leno Show (which will air at 10 every weeknight). Come midseason, Chuck kicks off the night, followed by the new sci-fi drama Day One.

Tuesday
The Biggest Loser will at first weigh in with two-hour outings. At midseason, Loser will downsize to 90 minutes, followed by the new comedy 100 Questions.

Wednesday
Parenthood leads off, followed by Law & Order: SVU. At midseason, the medical drama Mercy replaces Parenthood.

Thursday
Silverman promises "the funniest night on TV," starting with live editions of SNL Weekend Update Thursday. That will be followed by Parks and Recreation, The Office and the new comedy Community, starring Joel Hale and Chevy Chase. Don't cry "Blerg!" just yet, 30 Rock fans: You'll be lizzing anew just a few weeks into the season, once SNL wraps up its multi-episode run and Community moves to 8.

Friday
The landmark 20th season of Law & Order will lead off the night (and serve up at least 16 episodes), followed by the sophomore run of Southland.

Saturday
Dateline, Trauma/Southland repeats, SVU repeats.

Sunday
Once the NFL season ends, NBC will air Dateline at 8, the Jerry Seinfeld-produced reality show The Marriage Ref at 9, and The Celebrity Apprentice at 10.

Fall TV: Official Fox Sked Adds Dance to Fall Mix, Terminates Terminator

Fox's official plan for the 2009-10 TV season includes good news for House and Bones fans: The two popular series are staying put on their respective nights. They'll also boost two returning freshman series: Tim Roth's Lie to Me has scored the plum après-House berth on Monday, while Fringe will lead out of Bones on Thursday.

Dollhouse will remain in the Fridays-at-9 pm slot, where its new lead-in will be a pair of live-action comedies — Brothers, starring former NFL star Michael Strahan, and [groan] 'Til Death.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has officially been powered down. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly tells TVGuide.com that no matter how well Christian Bale's Terminator Salvation theatrical release does, the TV series will not be baaaack.

On the reality front, So You Think You Can Dance enthusiasts can do a little jig to celebrate the fact that not long after the show's about-to-launch summer season ends, a fall edition will kick up its heels, airing on Tuesday (with a two-hour performance show) and Wednesday. Kevin Reilly says that the intent is to mirror the network's midseason lineup, when American Idol enters the mix.

Wanda Sykes will host a late-night roundtable talk show airing Saturdays at 11 pm.

Among Fox's new offerings, Glee — which gets sneak-peeked this Tuesday, following American Idol's Adam-Kris sing-off — will air on Wednesday, leading out of Dance's results show. The Family Guy spinoff The Cleveland Show will call Sunday-at-8:30 pm home.

Premiering midseason will be Past Life (a reincarnation-tinged thriller series airing Tuesdays at 9 pm), Human Target (with Mark Valley as an elite bodyguard, replacing Glee on Wednesdays) and the comedy Sons of Tucson (starring Tyler Labine and targeted for Sundays).

2009年5月20日星期三

here are so many ways to resolve a rivalry without using your fists. Why not a sing-off? Or a competition to see who looks better slathered in goo? Or who can lose the most weight? Or... wow. Maybe Jack and Sawyer have the right idea, settling things the old-fashioned way. In this week's finale-filled Top Moments, we look at some folks who find creative ways to settle their differences. And two guys who aren't fighters, but lovers. Of each other's moms.

12. Best, um, "Homage": The Grey's Anatomy reveal that the bus-pancake patient is George provides a jaw-dropping jolt — that is, to anyone who hasn't seen ER. The dearly departed medical drama employed the same twist 12 years ago (and much more effectively) when a John Doe brought in after jumping in front of a train turned out to be Dr. Dennis Gant. (Gant died, by the way. Does that mean George will die too?)

11. Best Last Call: The rise of Lucifer isn't the biggest shock in the Supernatural finale. It's the reveal that all this time Ruby has been manipulating Sam into breaking the last seal. Though Dean is "too late" to stop the apocalypse, he does manage to cut off Sam's demon-blood supply — in the most permanent of ways.

10. Sweetest Deal: After having his nearly unthinkable Dollhouse theory proven true, disgraced G-man Paul Ballard offers his sleuthing services to Adelle in exchange for the early release of one Active. But rather than tapping Caroline/Echo, he extends freedom to onetime lover Mellie/November. What a doll.

9. Smallest Winner: Tara Costa, a 24-year-old who won 18 straight weeks of challenges, seems like a natural winner of The Biggest Loser as she steps to the scale. The other two finalists, who have already weighed in, wait anxiously to see if she'll best them once again. But she doesn't. The unlikely winner turns out to Helen Phillips, a woman twice Costa's age who shed 54 percent of her body weight. Who says youth carries all the advantages?

8. Global Warming Award: Geeks with dreams of getting the girl give new thought to vacating mom's basement as Big Bang Theory's Penny has a hard time saying goodbye to North Pole-bound Leonard. Asked by her would-be beau about her prolonged hug, Penny says — though only to the audience — "It means I wish you weren't going." We melted.

7. Most Ostentatious Display of Wealth: We knew the Jersey girls featured in the latest installment of Real Housewives would be as flashy as the ladies from past installments, but nothing beats Teresa paying a $120,000 furniture bill in cash. "I hear the economy is crashin' — so that's why I pay cash." If you have that many dollars around, why not shape them into bean bag chairs?

6. Dirtiest Walk-Off: Some may call it artistic, but America's Next Top Model finale runway looks more like a mud- and grease-soaked orgy. The designer's vision for slathering grease all over his models while they crawl and writhe down the catwalk is a little too high-fashion for our taste. Teyona, who made the best of losing her fake hair amid all the mud-slinging, went on to win the show's latest cycle. Congratulations.

5. Best Maternity Leave: Pam shows up at The Office's company picnic expecting to lead her team to volleyball dominance... and goes home just expecting. She and Jim get the good news when she leaves the festivities to get medical clearance for an ankle injury. Next year she can show up with a bundle of joy, but please: no chicken pot pies.

4. Too Soon? Award: You'd think the revelation that Dr. William Bell lives literally "in another world" would be the biggest shocker of Fringe's debut season finale. Instead, it's Olivia's discovery that Bell's office is located inside a still-standing World Trade Center. Wow, they went there? It's true, we couldn't think of a faster storytelling shortcut to say this is a different reality. But wow.

3. Least Surprising Exit: We can't say we're caught totally off-guard by Danny Gokey's boot from American Idol, given not only that scream but also Paula Abdul's decision to make him sing a song by Terence Trent D'Arby. (Who was a big deal around the time Abdul came on the scene, but is an unknown to Idol's younger viewers.) Could the Adam vs. Kris showdown have felt more inevitable?

2. Best Collaboration: Is it weird that Justin Timberlake is as funny as anyone on Saturday Night Live? Or that some of Andy Samberg's songs are as good as Timberlake's? We're glad they're both secure enough in their skills to work together on instant classics like "Motherlover," the highlight of an episode our moms seemed to like even more than we did. (Watch it at our Online Video Guide.)

1. Blankest Slate: Lost gives Juliet the best death since — well, the death of that other Juliet — and leaves us with a fade to white that amounts to a blank slate for next season. It recalls the Sopranos' cut to darkness, but this time we get to see what happens next. And if Lost as we know it is really over, we're glad we got to watch Jack and Sawyer fight it out before the end.

Bones
8 pm/ET Fox
There's been a lot of buzz about Brennan and Booth having sex this season, but after his brain surgery last week, will it happen in his hospital bed? That remains to be seen, though there are plenty of other reasons to tune in to tonight's fourth-season finale, including the return of Zack (Eric Millegan) and appearances by Brennan's dad (Ryan O'Neal), Booth's brother (Brendan Fehr) and, last but not least, M?tley Crüe, who just happen to be playing at a nightclub that's the scene of a murder. — Joe Friedrich

Grey's Anatomy
9 pm/ET ABC
Last week's Izzie stuff was quite the hankyganza. But all those wedding tears didn't wash her tumor away, and that'll have to be dealt with in tonight's two-hour season finale. Will she opt for surgery? Whatever happens to her is likely to be game-changing; that's what season finales are for. Also look for big George and Bailey news (no, they're not getting together) and Mark-Lexie developments. And what of the couple that was supposed to have gotten married? The Mer-Der soap opera still lives. — Paul Droesch

The Office
9 pm/ET NBC
A sterling Season 5 advanced with a multitude of plot-shifting crises. Among them: Andy and Angela's romance collapsed; Michael's relationship with Holly dissolved; and Michael's clash with bigwig Charles Miner was so major that he quit to start his own company. No, it hasn't always been a picnic for this gang. It's only fitting, then, that the season closes with...a picnic. The staffers attend this annual company outing, which finally brings together Michael and ex-flame Holly (Amy Ryan) — and Michael has big plans for her. Elsewhere, the Scranton branch tries to outwit, outplay and outlast the competition in a volleyball tournament. — Dean Maurer

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
9 pm/ET CBS
Easygoing Ray (Laurence Fishburne) is forced to take lethal action for the first time in his brief CSI career as the ninth season comes to a conclusion. The case he's working focuses on murders linked to a poker scam that centers on rare poker chips from a bygone casino. Gerald McRaney and Cynthia Watros guest star as suspects in the crimes. — Tim Holland

30 Rock
9:31 pm/ET NBC
The Rockers face the music in the Season 3 finale, which hums along with a note-perfect roster of musical guest stars, including Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Elvis Costello, Clay Aiken and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Alas, Jack's life lacks harmony: He tries to connect with his biological father (Alan Alda), but that's when the elder's health begins to suffer. In Liz biz, our heroine gets into a groove as a relationship expert. On the flip side, there's Tracy, who finally tries to overcome past high-school humiliations. — Dean Maurer

CBS' sitcombo of Rules of Engagement (6.38 mil) and Old Christine (6.54 mil) placed second. Trailing the Lost clip show and Law & Order: CI, the America's Next Top Model finale drew 4.23 mil, up 410 thou.

New Adventures of Old Christine
8:30 pm/ET CBS
Christine is desperate to prove that she's fine with Richard getting married on this laugh-a-minute episode, so she brings a sexy guy to his rehearsal dinner. Unfortunately, her hot date (a comically crude Lee Tergesen) turns out to be a first-class "jackass." Not that Christine will admit it. The series is on the bubble for renewal, but ABC has reportedly offered to pick it up if CBS passes. That's great news for Christine fans and comedy lovers everywhere. — Tim Holland

American Idol
9 pm/ET Fox
This will separate the men from the boys. The all-male Top 3 ripped through two songs each last night — one a judges' choice and the other a choice of their own. So now these gifted guys — Kris Allen, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert — await the viewer verdict with white-knuckle anticipation. Sadly, three's a crowd: One will fall flat while the other two will soar to next week's big final week. Adding some spark tonight is Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, who performs "Battlefield." In addition, pop songstress Katy Perry renders "Waking Up in Vegas." — Dean Maurer

America's Next Top Model
8 pm/ET CW
Allison, Aminat or Teyona will be crowned the Cycle 12 winner tonight, and the competition is Teyona's to lose. Only a major meltdown would likely derail her chances. Birdlike Allison and strong-bodied Aminat seem destined to be runners-up. But, who knows? The obligatory CoverGirl photo shoot is never easy, and Teyona appears to have a problem with it. After one gal is eliminated, the final two hit the runway to show off their fiercest moves yet to land the top spot. — Tim Holland

Lost
9 pm/ET ABC
Rub-a-dub-dub, Sawyer, Juliet and Kate in the sub. How long they'll be together in these cramped quarters is an open question, but it doesn't look good for Juliet. Or is it just a tease? Maybe we'll find out in tonight's two-hour season finale, but there are other (Other?), if not bigger, fish to fry, like: What'll newly minted "man of faith" Jack do if he gets his hands on the bomb? And, in 2007, what'll newly minted "man of reason" Locke do if he gets his hands on Jacob? — Paul Droesch

CSI: NY
10 pm/ET CBS
Series star Melina Kanakaredes penned tonight's international episode in which Stella investigates murders linked to ancient Greek artifacts, a case she has been involved with much of this past season. The evidence leads Stella to Greece, but in order to follow the clues there, she turns in her badge. Kanakaredes is Greek-American, so she probably knows a thing or two about Greek culture. — Tim Holland

Monday's ratings recap:

8 pm/ET
Dancing with the Stars averaged 18.3 million total viewers over its two-hour run, down 10 percent week-to-week. The House season finale placed second in the hour with 12.33 million, gaining 200K. Or so we think. (Who can be sure of anything anymore?)

CBS' Big Bang Theory wrapped up its second season with 9.8 mil (its biggest audience since April 13), while lead-out How I Met Your Mother (8.7 mil) slipped 200 thou. Gossip Girl (2.33 mil) inched up 100K.

9 pm
CBS' Two and a Half Men (12.9 mil) and Rules of Engagement (10.13 mil) dropped 8 and 10 percent, respectively, while 24 held steady at 10 mil. Medium's back-to-back episodes this time around averaged 6.77 mil, down 450K.

One Tree Hill matched last week's 2.28 mil. (An aside: OTH recapper Robyn Ross, who is screening the season finale today, just IM'd me to say, "It rocks!" Crave elaboration? Email Mega Buzz.)

10 pm
CSI: Miami topped the hour with an audience of 13.37 million (down 360K), while ABC's Castle closed the book on its freshman run with another increase — 550K — to deliver 10.55 mil. Does anyone else smell a renewal...?

An audience of 10.43 million total viewers looked on as The Amazing Race crossed its latest finish line. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition followed with 8.2 mil (slipping 11 percent week-to-week).

The three(!)-hour Celebrity Apprentice finale averaged 8.73 mil (on par with last week) but surged in the 10 o'clock hour to... well, you'll see what it accomplished a few seconds later in this story.

9 pm
Desperate Housewives' penultimate episode of the season drew 12.13 mil, plunging 10 percent from last week. In second, Cold Case concluded its sixth cycle before an audience of 11.78 mil, dipping 680K.

Gossip Girl
8 pm/ET CW
The show takes a trip back to the totally awesome '80s as Serena's arrest prompts Lily to recall her wild and crazy youth. Flashbacks tell the tale of a teenage Lily (Brittany Snow) getting kicked out of boarding school and heading to L.A. to be with her family. No Doubt portray an '80s band and former Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy steps back into his Reagan-era duds to play Lily's dad. McCarthy won't be taking Molly Ringwald to prom, but Nate and Blair deal with their own prom problems back in the present day. — Jennifer Sankowski

House
8 pm/ET Fox
Cuddy and the detoxed (for now) House got it on last week. Where can this go? "I don't think it's a passing thing," Lisa Edelstein said recently, just before a warning not to expect a "satisfying relationship." Thus teased, we move into tonight's season finale, in which we can also expect Cameron-Chase developments. Patients include a guy whose brain is at war with itself and a codger (Carl Reiner) that Cuddy foists on House. She's still his boss, remember, and he's not exactly Employee of the Month. — Paul Droesch

The Big Bang Theory
8 pm/ET CBS
Along with stellar writing and a perfect ensemble cast that has great chemistry — or would that be physics, in this case? — the series uses a stock sitcom device that keeps fans watching: a couple that everyone knows should be together, but who never quite get there. Fans know Penny and Leonard have "something," but Penny and Leonard don't see it clearly until tonight's second-season finale, in which Leonard prepares to leave for a three-month-long science trip. — Bill Ecklund

One Tree Hill
9 pm/ET CW
Lucas dons a groom's tux for the second time, and hopefully he won't be left at the altar once again. Of course, last year his lingering love for Peyton was the reason Lindsey left him, and this year his betrothed is none other than Peyton herself, so things should go much more smoothly. Surprise guests are on hand for the nuptials, and Haley gets to play a special role in the ceremony. Meanwhile, Skills makes sure he doesn't lose sight of Jamie at this wedding, and Brooke keeps an eye on Nick Lachey. — Jennifer Sankowski

The Alzheimer's Project

Based on Shriver's book What's Happening to Grandpa? this episode lets kids and teens share stories about their grandparents' varying stages of dementia, and offers advice for those who may experience fear, confusion or even anger at their loved ones' decline. Bones
8 pm/ET Fox
In this series, "B & B" stands for Brennan and Booth, but after tonight, it may default to its usual abbreviation for bed-and-breakfast. That's because Brennan shocks Booth with her sudden desire to have a baby — and she wants him to be the father! Such a development could put truth to the rumor that these two will finally get to know each other in the biblical sense, but in the meantime, Booth does his best to process this momentous decision with some help from Family Guy's Stewie Griffin (voice of Seth MacFarlane). — Joe Friedrich

Grey's Anatomy
9 pm/ET ABC
The season finale isn't until next week, but Meredith and Derek's wedding is scheduled for tonight. It's also the series' 100th episode, so what better way to celebrate, right? But whether the bride and groom will get to the church on time is an open question. Another one is whether "bridezilla" Izzie will. It appears the surgery she was being wheeled into at the end of last week's episode turned out well, but there are ominous signs, too — like Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the guest cast. — Paul Droesch

The Office
9 pm/ET NBC
If there's one thing high-strung Michael Scott doesn't need, it's coffee, especially with all the jittery changes in his life — quitting his job, trying to launch his own paper company and returning to Dunder Mifflin, to name a few. So it should be good to the last drop tonight: Michael embraces the idea of a "café disco" by introducing dance fever and coffee to the office, resulting in quite a jolt. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam rev up for a secret trip. — Dean Maurer

Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist
10:02 pm/ET ABC
In times like these, with dark clouds all around us and more on the horizon, it's often difficult to even get out of bed in the morning. But finding that silver lining has become a mission for actor and activist Michael J. Fox, who has been living with Parkinson's disease since the 1990s. In this special, Fox travels the globe on a quest for unique stories of optimism in the face of incredible odds, and he speaks to individuals from all walks of life for whom adversity is the best of all motivators. — Joe Friedrich

Fashion Show
10 pm/ET Bravo
Bravo may have lost its runaway hit Project Runway to Lifetime (that show's new season is slated to begin on Aug. 20), but there's still a passion for fashion here. It'll get fierce when professional designers square off in fashion-themed heats in this new real-world competition show. The series premiere introduces the 15 clothiers, who meet hosts Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland before trying to sew up wins in two challenges. Fashion dignitary Fern Mallis appears as a series judge. — Dean Maurer

Scrubs
8 pm/ET ABC
Scrubs wraps up its eighth season tonight as J.D. prepares to leave Sacred Heart and fantasizes about finally landing a hug from Dr. Cox and learning the Janitor's real name. But leaving the hospital isn't the only change in store for J.D. as Elliot slowly begins moving her things into his place, a clear sign that she's changing the course of their relationship. More than 50 past guest stars turn out for tonight's finale, a fitting tribute to this quirky and heartfelt show. — Brie Hearn

American Idol
9 pm/ET Fox
The final four singers are between a rock song and a hard place in tonight's results show. Last night, the remaining quartet — Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert — blasted through rock-and-roll tunes, putting some edge in the show while being mentored by Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitar master Slash. Sadly, one of our singers will be slashed from the contest before night's end. There's little doubt that rockers No Doubt will perform. And Daughtry, fronted by Season 5 contestant Chris Daughtry, are on hand to perform "No Surprise." — Dean Maurer

Lost
9 pm/ET ABC
Now we know exactly why the crash of Flight 815 happened. And we know about Faraday's theories for making it unhappen. What would happen then? We'll have a better idea next week, after "The Incident" happens to wrap up this season. But for now (1977, actually) Jack and Kate are at odds about what to do next, and the jig is up for Sawyer and Juliet at Dharma. And in 2007, Locke is fully in charge of the Others. What does that mean for Richard Alpert (not to mention Ben)? — Paul Droesch

Lie to Me
8 pm/ET Fox
Cal is going to jail tonight, but not for anything that he did: He's posing as a cop killer so he can get into the skull of a serial rapist (Rescue Me's Daniel Sunjata) whose MO — come on like a nice guy, then blind the victims before raping them — is being copycatted. This approach could yield clues for catching the copycat, but it won't be easy because the guy is both smart and a pathological liar. Mekhi Phifer guest stars as the skeptical FBI agent on the case. — Paul Droesch

America's Next Top Model
8 pm/ET CW
Teyona strengthened her front-runner position with last week's double wins in the go-see competition and the photo shoot. Slight-of-height Fo wasn't so lucky and got the short end of the elimination stick, while golden oldie Celia narrowly escaped ouster (she bombed the beach photo shoot), due to her strong past pictures. But if she doesn't soon remove the "old-looking" label from her back, Celia is history. Fortunately, Tyra directs a jungle-themed photo shoot tonight that requires the final four models to resemble exotic birds. Maybe Celia can hide behind the distracting makeup and feathers. — Tim Holland

Mega Buzz on SVU, NCIS, Housewives, Private Practice & More

Now that Michaela McManus has left Law & Order: SVU, is there any word on who will replace her as the ADA in the fall? Having Stephanie March back would be great. — Jose
MICKEY: By my count, there could potentially be four vacancies in the cast next season, including the two big guns, the ADA slot and another member of the SVU team who I'm hearing is going to die in the June 2 season finale. And while I agree that March returning would be great, all signs point to something similar to this season's "dual ADA" situation happening. Who would you cast? Send your suggestions and I'll bring them to the producers myself.

I heard a very nasty rumor that Michael Weatherly is leaving NCIS. When? Why? It would take an amazing actor to fill the hole left in Gibbs' family/team if Tony left. — Laura
MATT: It is entirely likely that Tony will be a victim of ... semantics. When I asked NCIS boss Shane Brennan about the rumor that Gibbs will lose a team member by season's end, he said, "That's not correct ... but that's not wrong, either." He then let rip a rather sneaky laugh, before adding, "It's one of those things that people are going to have to watch to figure out." (Get more NCIS finale scoop here.)

Please clue us in on the Desperate Housewives finale! Will Lynette be adding to her clan? — Stephanie
MICKEY: Read this and see if you still think that Marc Cherry would knock up the pregnancy-prone (and -averse) Lynette a fourth time. During that pregnant pause, I'll tell you that a character from Seasons 1 and 2 will show up in the last scene of the finale, and I'm hearing that he/she will be presented in a very different light — that is, probably fully clothed.

Many Fox affiliates aired Lie to Me last week, but mine aired President Obama instead. I know this is true in many other parts of the country. Will Fox re-air the episode soon? — Sarah
TIM: The episode you missed, "Undercover," isn't expected to repeat until August, so your best bet is to watch it using our Online Video Guide. Then, check out my full interview with series lead Tim Roth.

All spoilers seem to indicate that Without a Trace's Danny and Elena will be married by the end of the season or shortly thereafter. But in real life, agents can't be married and work on the same team. Is it possible that either Danny (please, no!) or Elena will be leaving the team? — Anna
TIM: Let me put it this way, Anna: Your powers of investigation would do Without a Trace's missing-persons unit proud. But regardless of how things go down in real life, the big step Danny and Elena take in the finale won't make a missing person of either of them on the show. TV is a little less rigorous than law-enforcement agencies about workplace romance; as bad as it may be for crime-solving, it's great for drama.

What's the deal with the Private Practice season finale?! Is Violet being killed off? — Trina
MATT: What, you don't think crazy Katie can pull off her first C-section, using just a "how to" manual? And what of Charlotte, who just got canned by Bill Buchanan? I asked Amy Brenneman about both of those possible departures, and she said, "As far as I know," both Violet and Charlotte will return for Season 3. Brenneman even hinted that things aren't quite over for Violet and Cooper, romantically. "That's the eternal love, let's be honest," she said. "So yeah, don't give up hope."

I absolutely love ABC's Castle but I am very concerned about whether enough people are watching it. Tell me something positive about the ratings and/or network pick-up, please! — Mistylou
TIM: We went looking for clues in Nathan Fillion's tweets, and now suspect he may leave the show to play Flight Control on his iPhone full-time. But really: Our Fall TV Scorecard gave Castle a "good" chance of pickup, despite declining ratings and some weakness in the 18-49 demographic. (It has the good fortune to be slipping from ratings that started out high.) In other positive news, Fillion's Flight Control top score is up to 92.

What happened to AMC's Mad Men? — Teresa
MICKEY: It changed the face of television, that's what happened to it! Season 3 kicks off in August (no exact premiere date has been set yet, but between you, me and the wall, you should stock up on canapés and vermouth before Aug. 16). British actor Jared Harris, who recently played spooky terrorist David Robert Jones on Fringe, has signed on for a 10-episode arc as Sterling Cooper's new CFO, which I guess means that merger went through after all. Bully!

Is Two and a Half Men's Mia coming back anytime soon? — Clarisse
MATT: Ballet teacher Mia — who, we should remember, once came thisclose to making an honest man of Charlie — returns to the mix in the May 18 season finale, effectively waylaying her ex's current romance with Chelsea. And it's a good thing, too — with the way CSI: NY's death-filled finale is shaping up, Emmanuelle Vaugier soon may need the extra paycheck!

Any scoop on Burn Notice's third season? How will things be between Michael and Fiona when the show returns? Will Sam get a new lady friend? — Kerry
MICKEY: Moon Bloodgood (Journeyman) has been cast as a Miami cop on Michael's trail, so it'd seem that Season 3 is about exposing the truth about Michael's past. Recurring guest star Ben Shenkman (aka Jennifer Westfeldt's apoplectic Grey's Anatomy husband) may be Michael's only ally, albeit a totally sketchy one. And of course love-'em-and-leave-'em Sam will get a new lady friend — for a little while anyway.

What can you tell us about the Supernatural season finale? — Andira
MATT: What can I tell you that's not already out there? The apocalypse is nearing, the boys battle each other in a bloody-good smack-down, the hunt is on for Lilith before she breaks the final seal.... All in all, I'd brace for something extra-special, as far as Supernatural goes, seeing as this is only the second time series creator Erik Kripke has directed an episode — and the very first time he has worked off one of his own scripts. P.S. I assume you spied our sneak peek of this week's episode?

In recent Saturday Night Live episodes, Darrell Hammond was reduced to about two sentences total. Is this his way of bowing out ... or is he being forced out? — Jon
TIM: Hammond, the longest-serving cast member in SNL history, is in early talks to return for next season — it's just a matter of making the numbers work. ("Numbers" is a polite way of saying "money.") Hammond's straight-from-the-headlines political impersonations are a cornerstone of the show, and with the network airing six Thursday editions of SNL's Weekend Update in the fall, his services should be in especially high demand.

Mickey's Mega Rave: It's hard to stand out among the uniformly talented Grey's Anatomy ensemble, but Ellen Pompeo has been doing just that. Of late, her "dark and twisty" Meredith has more constructively confronted the pain of her past — most recently in a moving speech to the Chief about sticking up for a victimized kid (read: Meredith). Its unsubtle allusions could have played like dinner theater, but Pompeo's strong, deft reading gave Meredith a self-reliance and purpose that she usually lacks.

Matt's Mini Rant: Turning to the Grey's spin-off, I truly am sorry to pick on Private Practice's Addison again, but c'mon — is there a recent addendum to the Hippocratic Oath that says, "Keep the good of the patient as the highest priority unless you almost just shtupped her husband"? Now for heaven's sake, scrub back in and deliver that woman's baby!

Tim's Micro Riff: It's The Office's new receptionist, pre-Office!

Mad Men Adds Jared Harris for Season 3

The filming of Mad Men's third season just began Monday, and there's already a new face in the Sterling Cooper office.

Jared Harris has joined the acclaimed AMC drama for a 10-episode arc, TVGuide.com has confirmed. Harris will play Lane Pryce, Sterling Cooper's financial officer.

Harris recently appeared in a guest arc on Fringe and in the Oscar-winning film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The British actor also just signed on for an untitled CBS Films project starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, on which he will work simultaneously with Mad Men.

Inside the Actors Studio
7 pm/ET Bravo
After a three-month hiatus, James Lipton's enduring (and endearing) interview series returns with a conversation with Emmy-nominated comedian and actor Denis Leary. This Denis is no menace: The Massachusetts-born Leary kick-started his career in the early 1990s with a kinetic, chain-smoking stand-up act before advancing into filmdom, which included star turns in 1994's The Ref and 1996's Two If by Sea. Leary added fire to his career in 2004 by taking on the role of veteran firefighter Tommy Gavin in Rescue Me, a series that he cocreated. — Dean Maurer

Family Guy
9 pm/ET FOX
Man bites dog. That's news. So, apparently, is reality star dates dog. It seems that Brian, in a drunken stupor following his ex-girlfriend Jillian's engagement to another guy, hooks up with Lauren Conrad of The Hills, and before long all of Hollywood is snarking about it. Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon and Craig Ferguson have voice cameos (doing their monologues), as do Conrad and her Hills confrere Audrina Patridge. —Paul Droesch

Desperate Housewives
9 pm/ET ABC
The news tonight: Orson is on the way out of Bree's life (she hires a lawyer) and Jackson (Gale Harold) is back in Susan's — just as Mike seems to be cooling on Katherine. Hmmm. In any event, Susan might need both guys (and anyone else who'll help) to protect her and MJ from Dave. Her confession about the accident last week hit Dave like a ton of bricks — and he isn't exactly stable to begin with — so there's a good chance that this story line will be around for awhile. —Paul Droesch

NBC renews "Medium"

NBC has renewed paranormal crime drama "Medium," sources said.

Details have not been determined, but the renewal is expected to be in the 13- to 18-episode range.

The Patricia Arquette-starring series has become a utility player for NBC -- a consistent, if modestly rated, performer and a reliable midseason backup

On the eve of NBC's Monday programing presentation to advertisers, the network also picked up midseason cop drama "Southland" and was finalizing a renewal of midseason comedy "Parks and Recreation," starring Amy Poehler

There is still no final word on NBC's two remaining "bubble" series -- modestly rated shows walking a fine line between renewal and cancellation -- quirky sophomore "Chuck" and veteran "Law & Order," which is looking to tie "Gunsmoke's" record run with a 20th season pickup.

Both series appear likely to return, but the decision probably won't be made until after the network's Monday presentation.

As for "My Name Is Earl," NBC and producer 20th TV have been engaged all weekend in negotiations for a full-season pickup of the comedy series.
